Sabotage Suspected In Rock Island Derailment
Authorities in Manhattan Kansas suspect sabotage in the derailment of a Rock Island freight train near the Kansas Power and Light plant. Five cars and the engine left the tracks but no injuries occurred. Inspector Larry Woodyard said the switch appeared tampered with and an investigation by Riley County police railroad detectives and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation is ongoing. If tampering is proven the FBI may join the case.

The Neosho County Commission decides to retain control of about 32 million dollars from hospital bond financing.
