City Aides Report Flu Epidemic Mild in The City
Department heads said the current flu epidemic has struck only a few city employees. Some crew juggling kept garbage collection running. City Manager R J Hayes, home with a sore throat, says many workers have flu shots or will receive vaccine as available. Hayes attended a Kansas municipal utilities convention in Wichita and is on the association board of directors. Also attending were John Lofthouse and George Eaton. Police and a doctor were summoned to a Chanute home where a young man, distraught over girl trouble, fired a pistol through his room ceiling. he was unharmed, a sedative given, gun confiscated and to be returned in a few days.
