Fire damages Dannen Elevator in extensive blaze
The Dannen Elevator at 702 Main burned with flames and smoke for hours. Fire officials estimated losses up to 60 000 dollars with 6 000 to 8 000 bushels of corn, barley, soybeans and wheat lost. About 100 000 gallons of water were used. the building built in 1950 and purchased in 1959 may be rebuilt. Roy Sneed led the response and praised the fire crew. The facility will be rebuilt and operations shifted to a portable mill temporarily.

Cow Killed After Car Hits Animal on Highway K47
A 21 year old Pittsburg student Jerri Ann Carter struck and killed a black cow on highway K47 northeast of here at about 6 50 p m yesterday. Carter and three passengers were uninjured. Sheriff Jerry Sloan estimated car damage at 200 dollars to a 1955 Chevrolet registered to Shelia Kitch of Hutchinson. The cow was believed owned by a Thayer woman with a value of 120 dollars.
