Left Hand Patrol Cars Collide At Lincoln Second
Two official motor cars responding to a fire call collided at Second and Lincoln about 5 40 p m yesterday. Patrolman Thomas J Ogden drove the police car southbound while Fire Chief C W Brennan steered the fire chief’s vehicle westbound. Both lights were flashing and sirens sounding. No injuries were reported. The police car front and the fire chief’s right rear fender were damaged. Both were en route to a car fire in the 1400 block on South Santa Fe which firefighters later subdued.

Kansas City Police Work on Allen Case
Kansas City police said six officers remain assigned full time to the abduction and slaying of Mrs. William R. Allen Jr. FBI agents join in efforts to locate the crime scene and the slayer. Sergt. Sterling Ford reported four leads checked yesterday and two people given lie detector tests. Mrs. Allen vanished August 4 during a shopping trip. Her blood stained car was found near Union Station the next day and her body was found August 7 in a Johnson County Kansas field.

Clark Coppock Found Dead in Apartment
Clark Coppock 58 was found dead in his residence at 3098 Steuben. County coroner Dr. Howard F. Swain said the cause was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police reported Coppock sat upright in a chair with a .38 pistol in his right hand and a note detailing funeral arrangements. The death occurred about 2 p.m. after a call was made to him and a neighbor found the body. Coppock, born August 5, 1897, was a former meat cutter at Shirley Market and a member of First Christian church. Survivors include two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services are planned for Saturday at Koch-Skinner Memorial chapel with burial in Elmwood cemetery.

Freight train derails near Poteau in Oklahoma

Ten inmates escaped from the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla last night aided by a seven inch concrete tunnel and 30 feet of earth. The exit near the west wall was discovered after a 7:30 p.m. guard change with police and bloodhounds scouring the area. Among the escapees was William B. Bracey age 20 who shot his mother in Tacoma two years ago and Ollie Wiles a lifer. others were serving 15 years or more for crimes from grand larceny to robbery.
