October police department summary shows fines and bonds totaling 287 dollars, up from September and bringing year to date to 5405. Parking meter penalties also 287 dollars with 1291 tickets issued. Calls for service declined to 288. 1 felony and 65 misdemeanors, including two intoxication arrests. Traffic citations 31 with 10 speeding, 5 reckless driving. 17 accidents with two injuries. Age group 17-19 highest incident, none for animal control.
Kansas City AP authorities recovered 1167 dollars from an apartment linked to Rose Solie, a friend of Everett Delano Ross, a 31 year old Kansas penitentiary parolee accused of the Monday hold up. Ross was arrested five hours after the robbery and arraigned, waiving a hearing and jailed on 25000 dollar bond. An employee identified Ross as the gunman who fled with about 1200 dollars.

Jack Rice, 16, of Barrackville West Virginia uses artificial legs to play football for Barrackville High School. He lost both legs below the knees seven years ago in a railroad accident near Nilwood Illinois. A Chicago Circuit Court jury awarded him 115000 in a personal injury suit against the railroad. He attends school as an A and B student and hopes to study pre medical courses in college.
In Topeka AP reports President Johnson ahead of Barry Goldwater in traditional Republican Kansas. Democrats also lead slightly for governor and one congressional race. Partial returns from 141 of 2,927 precincts show Johnson 7,103 to Goldwater 5,709 and Democrat Harry G. Wiles leading Governor William H. Avery 7,820 to 7,728.
Washington AP reports a massive voter turnout with ballots piling up beyond forecasts of a record 71 million. Early signs favor Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson over Republican Barry Goldwater, with the expected decisive African American support for Johnson.
A 38 year old German born mother charged with second degree murder for drowning her 42 year old son was found dead in the Jackson County jail. She fashioned a makeshift cord from mattress ticking and hanged herself after being placed in a crowded cell area while awaiting transfer to Fulton mental hospital. The case involves Theresa Hook and her son Frederick who drowned in a bathtub on Sept. 25. The court had ordered her committed to the state hospital and she had been brought to the jail Oct. 26.
Sheriff George Neely reports the county jail is standing room only with 19 prisoners in custody, the facility at capacity but within acceptable confinement standards.
In Wilmington two women aged 94 and 99, Florence E. Crumlish and Emily Washington, express their intent to vote Democratic. Crumlish recalls her grandfather voting Democratic with a quill pen and notes she has never missed a presidential election. Washington, age 4, says politics is men’s business but vows to vote Democratic.
