The Associated Press reports Kansas Memorial Day weekend traffic accidents have claimed nine lives. A three car crash on the Kansas Turnpike near Wichita killed Lt. Bernie C. Hill and Paul Shute, injuries to Gayle L. Steele. In Lawrence three KU coeds Georgia Ethridge Suzan Akers Shannon Hyten died in a crash with William Candlin critically injured. A Topeka couple Virgil and Valetta Lister died when their car hit a freight engine at a crossing in Belvue. Valley Falls resident Marvin Falley died in a separate embankment crash south of Marysville. Cecil Jans of Wichita was killed in a one car crash near Colwich.
