At 6 p.m. the Chanute City Commission will discuss the non exclusive option granted Tuesday to Criste Corporation of Parker Colorado to buy a parcel in the 600 to 800 blocks on West Chestnut. The firm plans a high rise apartment complex for older Americans and will seek funds to proceed.
Chanute City Commission discussed a non exclusive option to Crnste Corp of Parker Colorado for land north of Chestnut and east of Western in Highland Park. Housing Authority failed federal funding for a second Osage Village like complex due to cost and flood plain concerns.
Kansas moves toward a unified District Court of Kansas replacing county and magistrate courts. 77 of 133 county judges are nonlawyers and salaries rise. associate district judges earn at least 22,000 or 105 percent of current pay. Fatzer says reforms seek equal justice, funded by state money but often financed locally.
Lakeshore management plan finished for 12 district lakes to protect the environment and ensure safe recreational use. Col Anthony A. Smith notes it balances environmental goals with economic development, admitting no party is fully satisfied. Lakes named include Denison Eufaula Fort Gibson Heyburn Hulah Keystone Tenkiller Wister in Oklahoma Toronto Council Grove Fall River in Kansas and Millwood in Arkansas.
Ronald Reagan gained only one of 19 Kansas national convention delegates as Ford backed 18. Dole and Bennett topped list for Ford. Reagan won a sole delegate in the 3rd District. Topeka event saw late arrival and canceled press conference amid delegate ballots and party division.
