Minnie Minoso Hits Record Nine Lives at Plate

Minnie Minoso holds the American League record for most times hit by a pitched ball in a season with 23 and has been plunked 100 times in parts of seven major league seasons. He attributes the hits to pitchers crowding the plate and his slow judging of ball direction, noting he often takes inside pitches. He adds he only partly blames his speed and relies on being near the plate.
