First Foreign Juco Student To Graduate At Chanute Junior College
Mrs E K Haller of 208 S Forest will become the first student from a foreign land to graduate from Chanute Junior College at Friday night commencement. A Sydney Australia native, she married an American serviceman and they have son Brian, 13, who will finish eighth grade this spring. She and her son live with sister in law Sarah Haller, a junior college English instructor, while her husband works in Topeka. Her family in Sydney is known as the League of Nations family. She enjoys America and junior college and may later teach and finish a four year degree.

Youth Admits Katy Holdup
Charles Francis Gates 20 year old former resident was sent back from Arkansas City to face charges of attempted robbery and forgery. He admitted to authorities that he tried to hold up the Katy depot on May 14 and forged a $200 check in the name of a local foster parent. Gates does not match the posted suspect photo but closely resembles it. The identified suspect was earlier picked up at Wellington and denies involvement. No money was taken from the depot. The robbery attempt involved a youth armed with a .22 rifle.

Rye boy shoots mother and sister in family tragedy
A 14 year old Rye High School freshman shot his mother Dorothy Casey and sister Sheila after a quarrel over homework.
