Neihardt Sees Native Culture As Museum Piece

Lincoln Neb AP. Poet John G Neihardt, age 91, has lived with Plains Indians for eight years in spirit and study. He says living culture can only survive as curiosity or museum, and Indians must be assimilated into mainstream civilization to thrive. He rejects militant paths, credits long work with old people, and notes no simple solution for poverty on reservations. Nebraska builder award honors his service.
