Nursing Homes Seek Higher Welfare Payment Rates
The Kansas Nursing Homes Association executive board plans a final offer to the Welfare Department. Proposed Phase 2 rates set a top of 14.50 dollars daily for skilled care, 12.50 for intermediate care, and 10.50 for intermediate personal care. If rejected, homes may appeal under state law to the Board of Social Welfare, then to district court. The association, representing 456 homes with 9 646 beds, notes welfare residents total about 52 percent of residents and current payments average nine dollars fifty cents daily. Durmaskin of Wichita says the department may not pay its fair share for welfare care.
