Topeka great grandmother to receive bachelor degree

Mrs. Mabel Jones Wright of Topeka will be awarded a bachelor of science degree by Emporia State Teachers College Friday night and receive a letter from President Nixon. Sen. Bob Dole will present the letter during a dinner in her honor. Wright began studies 73 years ago, later compiling enough hours for the degree. She plans to pursue a master's degree now.

Chicago Teachers Strike Grounds 600000 Pupils at Home

The Chicago Teachers Union and board of education ended hours of talks with a strike that kept about 600,000 pupils away from 523 public schools. School officials closed all schools for today and Friday while negotiations resume, amid union demands for a $150 monthly raise and guarantees against layoffs.

Power Outage Hits Cha nute Northeast Quarter
