Laborers from local 550 return to the junior college construction site after a brief clash with Caro Construction Company of Wichita. Officials say a settlement was reached with no signed contract and grievances addressed. Work resumed around 3 p.m. on the $1.2 million project, keeping the original completion date intact.
Cairo radio reported Egypt declared the Sinai Peninsula a forbidden area to the U N peacekeeping force on the Israel border. The 3400 U N troops were ordered to withdraw as Egyptian troops mass along the frontier amid fears of an Israeli attack on Syria. If enforced this would remove the UN force from the 145 mile border.
In Hannibal Missouri the week long search for missing brothers Joey Hoag 13 Billy Hoag 11 and Craig Dowell 14 ending without clues. They were last seen with a shovel and flashlights planning to explore a cave. Volunteers traveled up to 1000 miles before the search was halted.

The Army awards E I Du Pont a 3 157 000 contract to develop and operate a lead azide plant at the Army ammunition plant east of Parsons Kansas. National Gypsum will produce mines mortars and bomb dispensers when operation begins late this year. Peak employment around 3 500 plus 200 at the azide plant is expected next year. Robert B Gideon will head the local management team.
Ronald Arnold a 29 year old state highway employee from Grainfield was killed while returning from work on a roadside walk along Interstate 70. He was driving a tractor mower along the shoulder when struck from the rear by a truck driven by Edward Golenboski of Colby. Arnold died at the scene.

Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower checked out of Walter Reed Army Hospital and said he felt fine. He discussed Vietnam with Gen. Westmoreland and suggested a possible worldwide trip if doctors approve. He called the Vietnam war difficult but winnable and dismissed antiwar demonstrators as a minority.

Forty years ago this week Charles A. Lindbergh began the Spirit of St. Louis flight from Roosevelt Field Long Island to Paris. The solo nonstop crossing marked aviation immortality and spurred future air endeavors by pilots like Dr. John Rieger and Dr. Francis Xavier Sommer. Lindbergh, now reclusive in Darien, remains Pan American director, with his plane housed in the Smithsonian.
