A maple sapling was presented to Chanute Senior High School as a memorial to Jim, fatally wounded in last Halloween shooting. The ceremony drew students and staff as Larry Thompson accepted the tree on behalf of the school. The sapling was planted at the campus entrance near the street.
Elvyn E. Tredway of rural Erie filed a district court action against the city of Chanute over a September 22 traffic accident at 14th and Forest. The suit names a city pickup driven by Marion Mendenhall and a 1957 Ford driven by Juanita Tredway as involved. Damages sought total $579.43 for the car.
A car driven by Mrs. Frank Schremmer of Beaver and a truck driven by Joseph J. Reif Jr. of Hoisington collided on a county road last night. Both occupants were killed.

Lemon, Mission. Dan J. Dressing, Seneca. R. Byerley was named justice of peace of Appleton Township, Clark County.
About 150 retired Army men and guests will attend a firepower demonstration of Army weapons at Fort Riley as part of the semi annual orientation on new doctrine equipment and techniques. Attending are Rep. Wint Smith and two French officers Maj. Gen. John Jean Houssay and Brig. Gen. Andre Meltz.
Kansas City AP report says United Auto Workers Local 93 members approved a settlement of a workload dispute at the Fisher Body plant in suburban Leeds. The vote ended a strike that began March 29.

Dr Barbara Moore, 56, walking from San Francisco toward New York, ignores her husband H J L Moore in England who asked authorities to deliver a plea to end the trek. She reaches the Colorado border with a June 10 goal, sleeping in a highway garage and facing vast plains and wind.
