Governor criticizes Turnpike for bond sale sampling plan
Gov. Robert Docking accused the Kansas Turnpike Authority of errant strategy by seeking buyer sampling for bonds to the Kansas City-Galena turnpike and requesting $40,000 for a Mid-Continent International airport turnpike feasibility study. He urged bidding combines be consulted and questioned using sampling to gauge salability.

Virgil Lowe, Neosho County clerk, released annual census figures showing an overall county population drop from 19 494 to 19 414 a loss of 80. Chanute and Erie each rose modestly while several towns fell. Chanute gained 41 to 10 608 Erie climbed 17 to 1 460 and Thayer rose 27 to 444. Eleven other communities and twelve townships show mixed gains and losses with Tioga and several townships recording declines. City limits of Chanute were extended southwest during the year.

Lawrence, Kan. AP reports Von J. Greathouse of Kansas City was arrested and charged with a noon-hour holdup at a Lawrence supermarket involving about 10 000 dollars. Note Clue To Las Vegas Bomb Threat
A crudely written note demanding 75000 dollars held a clue to a bomb threat that led to evacuations of about 2500 guests from seven hotels across Nevada California and Arizona. A homemade bomb with four tubes of black powder was found in a Sahara Hotel room in Las Vegas. Police could not locate any other bombs.
