The Tribune advertises a vegetarian hotel in New York area and addresses Eden Abbet N B care of George McGrew in Chanute Kansas. McGrew later became Eden Ahbez, famed Nature Boy composer, living near Hollywood with his family under a pepper tree as a Yogi cult member.
South Korea's President Syngman Rhee secured a third term with about 55 percent of ballots, down from 72.6 percent in the 1952 election, amid notable opposition. Premier Mollet urged Soviet West-East dialogue at a Kremlin luncheon, seeking freer press and travel. Secretary Weeks rejected data exchanges with Russia over oil bit tech for national security reasons. United Steelworkers plan substantial wage hikes and contract changes in talks with 172 steel firms in Pittsburgh.
The Girl Scouts and Brownie Scouts will hold a tag day Saturday to support their camp fund. Brownie camp runs the week of June 11 and the Girl Scout camp the week of June 18, with Lorene Carson hired as camp director and registrations sent out.
Two Air Force men died when their car ran off Highway K57 four miles west of LeRoy and struck a tree. Sheriff O. E. Steele identified the victims as A.2C Clarence F. Talley of Conway Arkansas and AIC Albert A. Stoneking, 21, of Eldorado Springs Missouri. Both were stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka.
A U S Air Force statement says a B47 Stratojet crashed in the Atlantic about 12 miles off Land's End. A major search was started with one parachute seen about 62 miles offshore. One survivor was picked up by a French trawler.
Robert Finney, longtime local manufacturer and former Kansas Chamber of Commerce president, has been notified of his appointment to the Economic Security committee of the United States Chamber of Commerce after retiring this month following two terms in office.
Two Wichitans died and Harry Byram of Marion was injured fatally in a crash near Marion yesterday when Claude I. Depew’s car collided with a truck driven by Byram. Depew, 63, was a Wichita attorney and former Kansas Bar Association president.
Canberra reports Britain successfully exploded an atomic device at 1 51 p m Australian time off the Monte Bello Islands west of Australia. Officials say safety measures are in place and scientific data is being collected.
Hannibal Missouri reports Mrs. Eliza Allison age claimed 104 travels 17 miles to attend the funeral of her 86 year old daughter. She recalls people she long forgot and lives with daughter Fannie Miller in Frankford. She was born near Frankford and raised by a white family after her husband who died around 30 years ago.
Four persons were seriously injured in a highway crash on Kansas Highway 75 about five miles south of Topeka early today. Airmen Duane G. Ripplinger 21 and Frank Wolfe Jr. stationed at Forbes Air Force Base, George Reeves of Whitewater and Della Fry 19 of Topeka were among the injured.
Topeka reports traffic fatalities compiled by the State Accident Records Section. In the last 24 hours a figure is listed, with totals to date for 1956 and 1955. The report gives counts 209 for 1956 and 193 for the same period in 1955.
Dale Painter executive vice president of the First National Bank was elected county chairman of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis at the chapter’s executive committee meeting. Mrs. D A Finney, who has served about nine years, steps down but remains on the committee. Eldon Penner was named vice chairman Wayne Umbarger treasurer and H G Curl secretary. Fifteen year pins were given to DeBolt Payne Nelson. ten year pins to Finney Salb and Mrs Mix. five year pins to Mrs Bailey and Mrs Pownall. The 1955 polio fund drive raised 3267. Payne noted a $500 will from Mrs Ema Hoshaw of Chanute.
Kansas forecast calls for full sunshine across most of the state with temperatures in the 70s. Lows tonight expected in the 40s and highs Thursday reach the upper 70s to near 80, with warmer southwest areas.
Mrs. Howard O. Winans of 533 North Highland has been named executive secretary of the Neosho chapter of the Red Cross, replacing Mrs. Joe E. Hummer who resigned to become secretary to Chester L. Hamsher, manager for the new Kansas Tuberculosis Hospital. Winans previously served as the chapter’s home care chairwoman and was Erie representative during past tenure.
Six year old Throval L. Johnson and his dog were found dead inside a metal ice chest at the Sorenson farm north of town. The dog's body covered the air vent. the child was son of Mr and Mrs Gerald L. Johnson.

Gov. Fred Hall denies pressuring the State Park Authority to hire an Oklahoma dirt contractor for a feasibility study. Parsons authority chair J. Ed Thompson accused Hall as board members clashed over bid practices. Thompson cited minutes showing Relco-Go interest and a push to hire a Minneapolis firm.

William C. Drollinger 18 of Chanute has fully qualified for the United States Military Academy at West Point. A congressman’s appointee he took entrance exams at Fort Leavenworth in March and will enter the academy early in July. Drollinger, born November 9, 1937 in Cleveland, is a freshman at a junior college and a nephew of Robert N. Allen presidente of the Chanute Building and Loan.
A CF100 jet on a false alarm interception crashed into the Grey Nuns of the Cross home near Ottawa killing 11 nuns and injuring others. The two crew members and a priest perished. rescuers searched the rubble as fire consumed the three story rest home.
Chamber of Commerce dinner at Tioga Hotel hosted about 70 people. Clarence Sievers sketched plans for the year including agricultural development, zoning support, airport bond proposal, and hospital opening. Local leaders and guests from Pittsburg, Humboldt attended.
Evan Evans, former Kansas educator and current executive director of the National Aviation Education Council in Washington, D.C., will be the speaker at the combined Senior High School and Junior College commencement set for next Thursday at 8 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium. Sixty four Junior College and 137 Senior High School students are candidates for graduation. Baccalaureate services will be Sunday at 8 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium with Rev. Paul Life delivering the sermon. Evans, a Baker University alumnus and longtime Kansas educator, has held many roles including Kansas State Teachers Association leader and aviation education chairman. He has taught at Pittsburg State College, Kansas State College, Baker, Southwestern College, and directed aviation workshops. The program will include processions, orchestras, choirs, and diplomas to be presented by Floyd Naff and Buford Fisher presiding.
