The Postal Service raises first class letters from 6 to 8 cents an ounce and airmail from 10 to 11 cents. The rate increase takes effect tonight with legal challenges pending, as publishers and mail users seek to block the move.
Seven incidents of window breakage were reported to the police overnight. A 1957 Chevrolet parked at 902 N Grant had a side window broken. Moorman Feed Warehouse at 810 S Steuben had a 4 by 5 foot plate glass window broken with a brick. Byers Ready Mix Plant at 500 N Plummer had a 30 by 30 inch window broken and two more at Nu Way Laundry, 113 N Allen, were broken. A pickup at Olson's Supermarket, 1406 W Main belonging to Robert Browing had front and back windows broken. Front door glass at Custom Electronics, 1010 W Chestnut, Trans Line, 908 W Chestnut, and Jayhawk Glass Co., 112 Elm, were broken with bricks.
Genese Bunting a fifth grader at Murray Hill is set to share an anniversary date with Tricia Nixon as June 12, the same day Miss Nixon chose for her wedding to Edward Cox. A note from Miss Nixon accompanying the coinci dence was sent to Genese and a letter bearing the White House return envelope thanks her for best wishes. The Bunting family live at 1214 S Larson and are the parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bunting.

Mr and Mrs Bill Blair of six miles southwest of Erie on highway K47 breed train and show Apaloosa horses. A three week old colt fractured its left hind leg when four days old after a mare kicked it during a disturbance. Vets warned little hope for repair while the Blairs splinted and cast the leg hoping to save the animal even if crooked. The colt remained active and the couple stayed hopeful despite concerns.
