The Chanute Chamber planning committee promised no long speeches at the annual Spring Party to be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Tioga Hotel ballroom. The event features music and surprises, with dinner reservations available through the chamber office.
State Accident Records Section lists Topeka traffic fatalities in the last 48 hours totaling three with to date figures of 206 for 1956. Also notes a previously unreported fatality and compares with 192 for the same period in 1955.

At about 10 55 a m Saturday a pickup truck and a motor car collided at the entrance to Santa Fe Park on US 169. The accident was witnessed by Patrolmen Clifford McCoy and John Leroy and Police Chief Tom Morehead. The Haviland car driven by Mrs Dorothy Haviland 15 of Thayer was halted to let out a passenger and then turned into the park path hitting the southbound truck.
Mrs. Hummer, longtime executive secretary of the Neosho County Red Cross, resigns to join the Kansas Tuberculosis Hospital as secretary to the business manager Chester L. Hamsher. Effective May 21, she has served fifty years with the local chapter and three years prior as secretary to the Red Cross board. A replacement will be sought.
Colorado Springs investigators seek the cause of a brush and timber fire that blackened about 2000 acres of Air Force Academy land. The blaze, controlled about 6 30 p m after a five hour fight by 250 workers including 128 Fort Carson soldiers, caused no building damage and did not delay construction.
