Chanute man elected Supreme Watchman of White Shrine
Don C. Beach of 1313 W. Main Chanute was chosen Supreme Watchman at the Detroit Michigan supreme session. The position is the top post in the Supreme Shrine, which claims about 250 000 members and 800 shrines in the United States and Canada. Beach is the first Kansan elected to an international office. Two Chanute Men Plead Guilty to Reduced Charges
Sam Lambert and Chester Bowman pleaded guilty in city court to two counts each of assault and battery after an early morning streetside altercation on Second Street between Grant and Forest. Lambert was fined 50 dollars per count. Bowman received six months in county jail on each count, concurrent, with a one year parole. District court charges were to be dismissed. The victims were Buck Jones of Chanute and Max L. Decker and Barbara Decker of Iola.

Plane Crashes 6 Missing After Pacific Tanker Wreck Near Tokyo
A U S Air Force KB50 tanker crashed 100 miles southwest of Tokyo. Two crewmen were saved and six are missing. Survivors Sgt Cyril G Hopkins and A2C James Marlin McNeil were in good condition after parachuting into Suurgua Bay and being rescued by Japanese boats. Evacuation After Fire At Hotel Dieu Hospital
In Quebec more than 150 patients escaped a burning hospital wing with no injuries reported. Firefighters controlled the blaze in about an hour as 115 patients were moved to other hospitals. The wing built 26 years ago belongs to Hotel Dieu operated by Les Augustines de la Misericorde de Jesus.

In Manchester Massachusetts a fire sparked by a 33 day drought raged across tinder dry woods. About 1,000 firefighters from 38 communities and several federal agencies fought the blaze along a mile and a half front.
