Tom Blancett was elected Chanute district commander for the coming year, succeeding Maurice Marion. Bill Shaffer becomes district vice commander, Kenneth Becker joins the executive committee. The auxiliary chose Rose Fultz as district president and Bernice Wright as vice president. Pittsburg will host the 1964-65 convention in March. Delegates totaled 146 Legion and 161 auxiliary. general attendance reached several hundred with dignitaries Lt. Gov. Harold Chase and Attorney General William Ferguson present.

Police logs show a break in at Concrete Products on 624 N Highland Friday night with $45.07 in value taken from a cigar box and checks, similar to a Burlington Mfg incident Thursday. Other incidents include vandalism at LaForge Budd Construction, a backhoe lever theft, a gas tank cap removal, a gasoline theft from a Country Club tank, a Dr Pepper clock smashed at a car wash stand, two antennas and a car mirror broken at Fisher Motor Co., and a broken antenna on George Brieger’s car plus flower pot thefts from Main Street meters by an 18 year old boy. No charges yet.

House Approves Sale of Eastern Shawnee Trust Land

Six traffic deaths in Kansas weekend toll
Six people died in Kansas traffic crashes over the weekend. Helen Caldwell, 40, of Chetopa, died in a one car wreck on a K96 curve near Mound Valley. Kathleen Porn, 21, of Leawood, was killed when a car overturned on the Kansas Turnpike near the Bonner Springs interchange. Mary Ann Waisanen, 32, of Kansas City, Mo., said a gust caused Porn to grab the wheel. James Huber, 39, of Kansas City, Kan., died on U.S. 169 north of Paola. Donald Kelley, 37, of Osawatomie, was hospitalized after a crash with Huber’s car. Andrew Lane, 71, of Linwood, was struck by a truck on Kansas 32 west of Bonner Springs. Faith McCarty, 39, of Edwardsville, was struck after stepping from a stalled car on the Turnpike near Topeka.
