Area Crops Damaged By Late Spring Freeze
Neosho County agricultural agent Bill Dickson reported about 3 000 acres of young corn in the county will need replanting after a late spring freeze. Normal corn planting is 30 000 acres, with roughly 15 000 already planted. Hardest hit were crops under three inches tall. taller corn may show less damage. Dickson warned full extent cannot yet be known and advised awaiting a soaking rain before replanting. He estimated losses up to 15 000 to 20 000 dollars for the affected area, noting some fertilizer remains usable for future crops. Wheat and soybeans expect lighter damage, with alfalfa cuttings beginning. Wilson County similarly reports crop monitoring for freeze impact.
