In the state basketball tournament, Yates Center Wildcat players Chuck Mossman Mike Peterson and Greg Old again represented their families as youngest siblings. The 1960 team saw early exits while this year the Wildcats reached the final but lost 61 to 75 to Moundridge.

Alameda AP report on Mrs. Alfred Silva who says her 1970 state income tax is $4 on a $6,709 income after a $50 deduction, while she cites $967 federal tax and zero 1969 tax. She criticizes California's tax system and says she wrote to the Franchise Tax Board and Gov. Reagan.
The city street department will collect tree branches and brush Monday and Tuesday. North side areas of Main Street and routes north of Main will be done Monday, with south side and areas south of Main handled Tuesday. Place debris at the curb by AM the day of collection. Mrs. Silva, unable to reach officials, complains of state tax issues and the impact on schools and services amid California’s fiscal squeeze.
James McMullen, 39, was sentenced by Neosho County District Court Judge George W. Donaldson to up to seven years at Lansing for possession and control of marijuana. He will be transported from Neosho County Jail to the Kansas State Penitentiary next week after a Feb. 24 jury conviction. sentencing had been postponed to allow an appeal. McMullen was arrested March 19, 1970, under a former felony possession law.
Kansas teachers attend spring Kansas National Education Association convention with 26 affiliated groups. District 413 students gain a holiday as two-day meetings shift to instructional improvement and field focus. Chanute hosts science programs by Hal Davis and others with workshops on new teaching methods and student hands-on science projects.
