South Viet Troops Flee Laos Amid Helicopter Evacuations

In HAM NGHI Vietnam hundreds of South Vietnamese soldiers fled Laos under heavy North Vietnamese fire in 40 to 50 U S helicopters. Fifteen American choppers were shot down or crippled and some crewmen were rescued. A separate Liberal Kansas case reports a 19-year-old charged with first degree murder after the body of 14-year-old Suzanne Johnson was found. Johnnie Wilmore, a local student, is held in Morton County jail.

Pickup Of Limbs Brush Collection On Main Street Areas

The city street department will collect tree branches and brush Monday and Tuesday. North side areas of Main Street and routes north of Main will be done Monday, with south side and areas south of Main handled Tuesday. Place debris at the curb by AM the day of collection. Mrs. Silva, unable to reach officials, complains of state tax issues and the impact on schools and services amid California’s fiscal squeeze.

McMullen Sentenced For Marijuana Possession Conviction

James McMullen, 39, was sentenced by Neosho County District Court Judge George W. Donaldson to up to seven years at Lansing for possession and control of marijuana. He will be transported from Neosho County Jail to the Kansas State Penitentiary next week after a Feb. 24 jury conviction. sentencing had been postponed to allow an appeal. McMullen was arrested March 19, 1970, under a former felony possession law.
