Demonstration misfires at Lyons tear gas cannister firm

A Lyons police station demo by a tear gas cannister firm representative went awry when a valve were adjusted and the device discharged. Officers scrambled to open doors and windows as smoke filled the room. Capt. Richard Cox remained tearful and asked what anyone thought of the incident.

Snow and dust close I 70 in western Kansas region

The Kansas Highway Commission announced the closure of Interstate 70 from Goodland to WaKeeney at 9:30 a.m. due to up to three inches of snow and winds over 40 mph. Zero visibility was reported at Oakley and Grainfield, with blowing dust at Syracuse extending toward Dodge City.

Lyons Man To Face Bomb Threat Charge At Hearing

Rolland J. Donoho of Lyons, 26, is set for a April 8 preliminary hearing in Rice County Court on a felony charge tied to a bomb threat phoned into Lyons High School. He was arraigned and released on 1000 dollars bond as about 400 students were present. The arrest followed KBI tracing of the call.

National forecaster pushes trailer storm shelter laws

Allen D. Pearson, director of the National Severe Storm Forecaster Center, urged legislation to protect trailer residents. He called for storm shelters in larger trailer courts and steel anchors at the four corners of parked mobile homes to improve severe storm safety.

City planning groups urge jail upgrade and street changes
