Seven prisoners escaped Dallas County Jail on Friday sending shock through the Jack Ruby murder trial scene. Karen Lynn Bennett, a former Carousel Club dancer and Ruby witness, feared for her safety as an escapee brandished a makeshift pistol. four fugitives were captured shortly after, three remained at large. The escape started when seven prisoners forced an elevator, taking keys and flooding the hallway toward Judge Joe Brown's courtroom.
Erie High School won 64 54 over Uniontown to claim Class B regional title with Humboldt beating Bonner Springs 37 27 for Class A. Chanute Blue Comets face Coffeyville in Class AA at Altamont. Mascot Jeffrey Leigh cheers Eric. Details on sports page.
Washington AP reports AFL CIO Hotel and Restaurant Employes and Bartenders union opposes firing Bunnies for crooked ears and seeks a grievance procedure replacing the Bunny Manual. Union plans federal action to protect about 600 Playboy Club Bunnies across major cities and Manila.

The forecast calls for cold cloudy conditions across Kansas with little moisture expected. Light snow fell Friday and early today in scattered areas, Pittsburg reporting .10 inch, Goodland .03 and traces at Chanute, Wichita, and Olathe, with more precipitation possible in western sections today and Sunday and a slight warming trend Sunday.
The Kansas Supreme Court declared the 1963 sales law unconstitutional, calling it arbitrary oppressive and not uniformly applicable across the state. The ruling leaves Kansas without a state restraint on Sunday merchandise sales.
Washington AP reports the Bureau of the Mint announced a new Johnson Medal bearing a likeness of President Johnson is now available to the public.
Police said a suspect confessed to stealing a billfold from a hotel purse belonging to Dee Evans an employee of the Tioga Hotel last Sunday. The billfold and a ring were recovered with $40 missing. Charges will be filed Monday. the suspect was not held.
Four children burned to death Friday night in a Taft Oklahoma home fire. Their mother Mrs Kathryn Nunley escaped with four other children. The dead are Karen 11 Eric 3 and twins Nannette and Anette about 2.

The Senate opens its historic civil rights debate Monday led by Senate Democratic leader Mike Mansfield. The chamber moves ahead after sending the administration’s cotton and wheat plan to the House by 53-35. Morse plans to push hearings, while Mansfield cautions about the bill’s difficulty and political risk.
Kansas traffic death log reports 24 hours ending 9 am with 6 fatalities for March 1964, comparing to 73 in the comparable 1963 period. Data lists Topeka figures and overall death toll for the period.
A commercial airliner crashed today near Longview Texas. The control tower reported the crash site about 10 miles southwest of Kilgore in Gregg County. The plane’s identity was not immediately known.
Police investigated two non injury traffic accidents yesterday. At Main and Highland a 1962 Buick driven by Donald D. Haymaker struck the rear of a 1963 Ford driven by Janet Koop, causing $340 in damage. Haymaker said sun glare blinded him. A 1963 Buick driven by Fire Chief C W Brennan sustained $15 damage when backed into by a 1953 GMC panel truck driven by D W Nance. An abandoned 1939 Olds was found at Memorial Park cemetery, registered to Hurley Bohrer. A minor accident occurred at Hut ton school involving Mrs Roy Lowry and Martha McCoy.
