A Kansas State University report on the Southeast Kansas Area Development survey was presented to about 80 Neosho County residents. Speakers John Knox and Leo Cram outlined findings from 400 survey respondents across 15 counties and urged local citizens to consider forming a county development program.
A blaze in Vilas damaged two vacant structures once part of the Vilas High School complex. Cities Service Gas Co stored materials there after acquiring the frame building in 1957 and after the district consolidation a new school was built elsewhere. Firefighters fought the roof fire, with Chanute lines and equipment disrupted. no loss estimate yet.
Tuberculin skin tests were administered to 1870 Neosho County school students over two days at Thayer Erie St Paul and Stark testing centers. Monday saw 1100 tests with 475 at Thayer and 625 at Erie. yesterday added 770 tests at St Paul and Stark. Reactions from Monday readings occur today with yesterday’s readings tomorrow. Further testing is planned for Chanute next week with readings following midweek.
Three topics slated for discussion at the Kansas Chamber of Commerce meeting in Hutchinson include Sunday closing hours trading stamps and an administrative allowance for collecting Kansas sales taxes during the April 23 to 24 session.
