President Eisenhower said he has asked Vice President Nixon to chart his own path regarding a possible second term. He refused to commit to Nixon as running mate and emphasized he will not push him, urging Nixon to decide his own course.
Coffeyville dispatch reports Third District Republicans met to select the district's first national convention delegates and organize. Kirke Dale of Arkansas City was elected temporary chairman as Governor Fred Hall addressed the group. Delegates Hagman and Hartley were named as delegates with Wall as delegate at large pending ratification. the moves may affect Hall's reported friendly delegation.
In northern Norway last night avalanches struck three small communities near Siger fjord. At least 22 people died, including 8 children and 4 women in Skredbukt where homes were crushed and swept into the sea. Two boys were rescued after their home toppled.
