Thomas Hulme, pilot of a new Tri Pacer Cub, and two passengers died when his plane crashed during a snow storm near Indianola, Iowa after running out of fuel. Hulme, from Grand Island Nebraska, was a friend of Harold Olson of Stark.
The Kansas House tentatively approved restoring the emergency fund to 1 million dollars via voice vote. The package also includes a 29 thousand dollar annual pension for 16 former state employees and pensions of 2400 dollars for three district judges aged 79 and older. Also approved was a bill to receive federal authorization for National Guard pay and allowances.

Thieves took about one ton of 208 radioactive lead bricks from an atomic lab at Fort de Chatillon near Paris. Police warned the bricks are highly dangerous to handle as they shield an atomic pile.

Two trucks from Stark collided yesterday. Drivers Eu gene Lee and Oral Collins escaped injury. Sheriff Lee Montgomery and Undersheriff John Phelps investigated the scene. Collins vehicle sustained major hood damage while the other truck remained undamaged.
