The Gordons wife husband writing team say Chanute inspired Kay Crawford in their new novel Tiger on My Back published by Doubleday. The heroine flees Chanute to Paris and Morocco then returns to find happiness and meaning in the town. The Gordons, living in Sherman Oaks, have visited Chanute for years as guests of E. W. Johnson, former Tribune publisher. Johnson is now editor of The Olathe Mirror.
