Damage to Lights Probe Advances at Track
Police continue investigation into damage to street and park lights at the stock car track on West Main. Two young boys identified in the floodlight break are being questioned along with several teens over related vandalism. A cigarettes theft from a Self Service Grocery warehouse is also under inquiry with some items recovered.

Storm center in Rockies heads for Kansas showers
A weather forecast for Kansas expects a developing Rockies storm bringing showers across the state. Fireworks Sales Start Tomorrow in Chanute
Chanute stores and temporary stands will begin selling fireworks tomorrow for the Fourth of July. State rules bar sales outside June 27 to July 5 and regulate permissible fireworks. Police Chief Lige Matlock warns no explosions inside city limits before 6 a.m. or after midnight on July 4.

Plane With 71 Aboard Crashes in Italy

Chanute to Get Dial Telephone Office Within Days
Southwestern Bell will start construction on a new dial telephone office at First and Steuben in Chanute within 30 days as part of a 1.45 million program. N F English Construction of Hutchinson secured the excavation and building contract, with Western Electric handling switches and testing. Direct Distance Dialing will allow Chanute customers to place long distance calls to over 50 million telephones without operators, aiming for mid 1961 completion.
