Left Hand Pitch D E Lewis and Billy Beck fished on the Neosho River between Chanute and Humboldt. They saved a $30 billfold from the water after the boat swung to a tree limb, then Beck reeled it in when it crossed his line. Pete and Bill Jones now own two pet ducks.

Prisoners Escape From Garnett Jail
Two inmates fled the Anderson County jail likely using a self made key. Carol Stanford Prock and Richard Carey, both in custody on fraud and parole violation charges, were missing after an apparent break between 11:30 p.m. and 2:15 a.m. A stolen 1957 white over black Ford was linked to the escape and authorities searched the area including Missouri. Prock had been jailed after a federal postal robbery indictment and earlier cases. Carey remained jailed on parole violation.
