Two Wichita men Richard Earl Hill and Vernon Ray Bartholomew were killed when their Cessna crashed into a plowed field northeast of Brookfield during a heavy rainstorm. Hill, a flight instructor, and Bartholomew, a student pilot, were en route to Macon to pick up Hill’s children. The wreckage was found by farmer James Gordon on Roscoe Cassity’s farm. investigators noted circling before the crash and that the pilots’ exact roles were undetermined.
