Secretary of State Dulles marked 50 years since beginning his work in foreign affairs on June 15 1907 at the Hague conference. In Philadelphia the dredge Franklin operating near Burlington Island in the Delaware River saw bees swarm the bridge machine and locker rooms. Police Chief John R. Stewart, an apiarist, rounded up the bees and the 20 man crew returned to the dredge after 32 hours.
A Polish airliner with eight passengers, including three Americans from Grand Rapids, crashed in a Moscow storm. Survivors were Mrs. Margaret Tremper, her daughter Michelle, and Richard Cheverton. Rescue workers pulled them from wreckage as three Americans remained unaccounted for and six bodies were counted.
Five years of drought cut the area's income by 800 million dollars, said J B Dillingham president of the chamber of commerce. He noted the 1951 flood cost the region over a billion dollars and urged earlier funding for engineers at a ceremony marking the Army Corps of Engineers anniversary.

Nine year old Britt Poland of Azusa became ill after swallowing a weed killer crystal he found while waiting for the school bus. His mother questioned him and doctors confirmed the crystal fused with his bubble gum and poisoned him briefly. He is improving.
Carl Eames Jr. of Topeka, age 33, died yesterday after a car slipped from a jack and crushed him during repair work. Authorities are investigating the incident.
