A court order limited picketing by striking Westinghouse employees at Kansas City to allow entry and exit. Circuit Judge John R. James restricted United Automobile Workers Local 324, CIO, to peaceful methods as the strike affecting about 3,000 workers began Sunday.
The company will not negotiate again until nonstrikers can enter the plant. Judge James scheduled a June 24 hearing on a temporary injunction against the union. The union seeks a 20 cent per hour raise while the company says it granted 3 percent to 54 cents an hour retroactive to April 9.
A House Education subcommittee nears final action on a $1.6 billion school construction bill aimed at minimal federal controls. Subcommittee Chairman Kelley of Pennsylvania outlined the measure and hopes to present it to the full Education and Labor Committee within a week to ten days. Backers seek to break a stalemate over federal aid to education.
