Gov John Anderson and Republican state chairman Richard Rogers said they are pleased by Pennsylvania Gov William Scranton announcing his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Both remain uncommitted as to their first choice, not aligned with Goldwater support, with Rogers set to join Kansas delegation to the convention next month and Anderson planning to attend as governor.

Police report a bicycle ridden by Shane Burris, 8, struck Marvin Seger’s car at 5th and Forest yesterday afternoon. The boy was unhurt and minor bicycle damage noted. Additional minor vehicle incidents reported include two cars at 309 E Main and a Santa Fe Park driveway collision last night.

The Summer Jobs for Youth program run with Cha nute Jaycees and Kansas State Employment Service reports 119 placements since April 1. Of these 104 were non agricultural and 15 in agriculture while 185 youths under 22 have registered. Many registrants are strong typists and shorthand tests are offered. Don Cutsinger chairs the Jaycees effort, now in its 12th year.
Red Cross bloodmobile in Chanute collected 105 pints during a one day visit, 15 shy of the 120 pint goal. Neosho County’s final regional standing will be known by July 1, with Ponca City as regional winner in recent years. Next Neosho collection slated for August 27 28.

Harold Men's Shop in Brunswick Georgia canceled its Father's Day sale after $1400 worth of suits planned for the event were stolen. Manager J D Gibbs told police he did not realize the loss until attempting to mark down the items.
The 1948 $35,000 bond for Central Park pavilion repair and enclosure remains unresolved whether it can be issued now. The planning board recommended hiring a Kansas City bond authority for an opinion, while the attorney general’s office left the matter undecided. The board also urged repairs to suit recreation programs and community events. architects had said the original $35,000 was insufficient, and a $20,000 second issue failed at vote.
Donald R. Elbel of Kansas City was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 15 years after a jury convicted him on 15 counts of fraud tied to Coffeyville Loan and Investment Co. The judge ran five year terms concurrently within groups, with groups sequentially, and rejected probation. Elbel broke down in tears as the sentence was pronounced.
Fifty eight signers have been obtained for a water district serving farm homes southeast of Chanute. A final public meeting is set for next Wednesday at 8 PM in the Rural school to explain details and sign more members. LARNED Kan AP Larry A Houk 20 was killed early today in a one car accident on US 36 about seven miles southwest of Larned. He was a passenger in a car driven by Dennis Salem 18 of Dodge City. Salem was hospitalized with injuries not believed serious.
Washington AP report notes the House passed a pay raise bill rounding out a $533 million package boosting federal workers pay. It includes $7500 yearly for Congress members and raises for judges Cabinet officers and top executives plus 22.5 percent to 1.6 percent increases for 1.7 million workers. The bill awaits Senate action with strong White House backing and postal-union lobbying influence. An Udall amendment introduces automatic increases aligned with Civil Service pay scales.
