New Thayer Grade School Nears Completion
Thayer builds a poured concrete grade school after a 50 000 bond. Superintendent Dan Morgan says three weeks remain for interior decoration and tile flooring. The building adds four classrooms a clinic and a playroom and will house grades five through eight plus rest areas. Enrollment is rising to about 185 elementary and 85 90 high school students with two more teachers needed.

Heller Suffered Heart Attack in Neosho Memorial Visit
M W Heller of 201 N Evergreen became ill near the Kay Hotel around 10 20 am and was taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital by ambulance after police were summoned to help him return home. Friends say he had a heart attack and he was later transported home before another ambulance carried him to the hospital. His wife, who also has a heart condition, was admitted later as a precaution.

Tragic Drowning of 12-Year-Old Girl Near Buffalo
Mary Jane Thouvenell, 12, drowned in a stock pond at the north edge of Buffalo while playing on an inner tube. The girl could not swim and slipped into 15 feet of water as the tube tipped. Her mother and sisters could not swim. bystanders and volunteers searched the pond and recovered the body about 30 minutes later. State awards traffic line paint contracts above low bids
Kansas officials say the State Purchasing Division awarded white and yellow traffic line paint contracts totaling 40 794 more than the apparent low bidders.
