The Senate voted 71 to 29 to limit debate on the civil rights bill ending a 75 day Southern filibuster. House approval had come Feb 10 by 290 to 130. Senate action followed Byrd's marathon speech and a tense all-night session with security tight at the Capitol.
Kenneth Dean Bockover Teddy Bradford and Jerry Wayne Caldwell pleaded guilty to second degree burglary and larceny in a break in at the Neocha Drive-in theater north of Chanute on April 13. Bockover and Caldwell got five to ten years in the state reformatory for burglary and up to five years for larceny with terms to run concurrently. Bradford received a five year suspended sentence with probation and conditions. The trio also faced separate charges for another break in at Hillcrest school which were dismissed. Cigarettes and a tape recording machine were taken from the theater and foodstuffs from the school.
William Miller says a coalition of seven or eight top Republicans could stop Barry Goldwater from winning the nomination but doubts such a coalition will form. On NBC Today he added that the battle is over and Republicans must unite behind Goldwater.
Ness City Kansas AP Clif ford Alcorn of Kingman Kansas died Tuesday after falling from the top of a grain storage tank at the Service Grain Elevator. He worked for Durand Repair and Construction Co of Wichita. The accident occurred at the Ness City facility.
Weather summary shows temperatures high 84 to 96 and low 43 to 65 across today and tomorrow. Area forecast calls for generally fair conditions tonight and Thursday with a low around 60 to 65 and a high near 99. Relative humidity and barometer readings noted, 29.73 inches and falling.

Plant manager Italo Bragalone notes shifts restored with 30 to 60 recalled for afternoon and midnight. Local 810 ratified a new four year contract by an 83 34 vote restoring normal operations.
AP reports Kansas traffic death tally for a 24 hour period ending 9 am Wednesday June 1 1964 shows 242 deaths, up from 223 a year earlier. Data reflects Topeka region figures and state-wide totals.
The Senate invoked cloture on the Civil Rights bill with a 71 to 29 vote. Senators Carlson and Pearson of Kansas and Symington and Long of Missouri voted for cloture along with Monroney Edmondson of Oklahoma and McClelland and Fullbright of Arkansas.
Kansas facility move proposal aims to shift the Kansas State Grain Inspection Department’s largest office from Kansas City Missouri to Kansas City Kansas. The first 1964 Ellis County wheat was delivered Tuesday to the Victoria elevator nine miles east of Hays. Growers expect full harvest by Saturday weather permitting. Washington AP Sen Barry Goldwater voted against shutting off debate on the civil rights bill and warned he may vote against the bill itself. Ahead of a cloture test he said supporters appear to have votes to invoke closure and steamroller changes he believes are needed. He had already said he would oppose the leadership petition to limit debate.
President Johnson told Holy Cross College commencement exercises in Worcester Massachusetts that the United States has achieved an economic breakthrough in large scale nuclear reactors for commercial power. He said the knowledge will be shared with the world as rapid progress places the nation years ahead of planned milestones.
Chanute hosts the first state wide gas system school sponsored by the Kansas Association of Municipal Utilities for city operated gas systems. The two day event at the Tioga Hotel covers metering pressure regulation mains tapping and plastic pipe use with 80 towns possible attendance.
Havana radio reported that sentries at the Guantanamo Bay U S naval base fired on Cuban guards outside the facility and gravely wounded one. The broadcast, monitored in Miami, gave no date for the alleged incident.
Marie R. Dyer, 17, daughter of a Democratic congressional candidate in the 2nd District, died after a traffic accident two miles west of Meriden Kansas. She was alone in the car and died in a Topeka hospital after four hours of treatment. The crash occurred on Highway 24 when the car left the roadway and struck a bridge. Her father, Jay Dyer, owns Dyer Funeral Home in Atchison and had recently announced his candidacy.
Mrs. Ralph Wilson, 75, of Dodge City, died early today from injuries from a car truck crash Tuesday on U S 30, about 22 miles east of Dodge City.
LAWRENCE Kan AP one man died today as flames swept the cab of his tractor trailer after it left the turnpike four miles east of Lawrence. Behind vehicles reported it left the pavement plunged down a bank hit two trees and burst into flames. Leavenworth County coroner Charles Larkin said no identification was available. The cab leased to Plus Poultry Inc Siloam Springs Ark was pulling a load of fruit.
