Helping Hand CB Club plans a Spirit of 76 Jamboree at the National Guard Armory. The event runs 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday with Channel 1 monitored. Nashville Blues plays 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday for a charity dance benefiting Chanute Civil Defense rescue equipment.

Signa E. Anderson 78 of 810 S. Lafayette died Monday at Neosho Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born July 13, 1897 in Savonburg she married Charles J. Anderson on Oct. 17, 1915. Survivors include three daughters nine grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Funeral services 3 p.m. Thursday Gibson-Koch Chapel with Rev. Deane Endicott officiating burial Elmwood Cemetery.

The Thayer Booster Club launches the 41st Amateur Night this Saturday at 7 30 p m with free hot dogs for attendees and performances to follow. Joan White returns as master of ceremonies as amateur musicians provide the music. Attendance is free and any musicians may perform as sponsors say the series runs each Saturday through Thayer Homecoming weekend planned for Labor Day weekend.

Special services honor 27th pastor anniversary at Chanute church
Special services are held at 8 p.m. nightly this week for Rev. Floyd H. Thuston on the 27th anniversary of his pastorate at the Church of God in Christ in Chanute. Evangelist Dr. Phyllis Jackson of Las Vegas speaks each night detailing church work across the nation. The program includes Sunday school with Rachel Crutchfield and various leaders guiding sewing circle, Sunshine band, and YPWW events. A Sunday 3 p.m. service is led by Mrs. F. F. Butler and Virginia Hall. The church, rebuilt after a 1975 fire, emphasizes faith and service in Christ as Thuston marks a long ministry with Kansas ties and Chanute area church music and greetings.

Chanute Native Retires After 33 Years at Ft Sam Houston
George W. Gardner of San Antonio Texas retires May 31 from federal service at Fifth Army Fort Sam Houston with more than 33 years of military and civilian work. A Chanute native and 1938 Senior High graduate, he earned six outstanding appraisals a quality step increase and a two grade promotion. Gardner served in World War II and the Korean War earning the Silver Star Bronze Star Army Commendation Medal two Purple Hearts and Combat Infantryman Badge among many decorations. He and wife Norma have one son and four daughters.

Abilene police conclude the Humboldt death case of Robert Jones by skull fracture likely from a fall. Police Chief Fred Garten said the deputy coroner accepted a Topeka pathologist's report noting no evidence of beating and that Jones died after transfer from an Abilene hospital following injuries found May 24 in a motel room.

Bike falls from camper caused crash on highway
At 6 15 p m Tuesday a bike tied to a camper fell into the path of a 1973 Mercury Cougar near Humboldt. John B McGlincy of Gibbstown N J struck the bike, causing $158 damage to the bicycle and $100 to the car. He suffered a minor facial injury when a window broke.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation aids Neosho County sheriff in probing a theft at Shaw Manufacturing Company. About $300 cash was stolen from a safe pried open after intruders entered via a rear door. Five vending machines were burglarized with unknown change taken, and petty cash disappeared.
