Amateur entomologist J. L. Taylor reports a new insect seen along Main Street near sidewalk and building cracks. He identifies two varieties likely male and female, one winged one not, resembling a honey bee or moth and shedding shell remnants as they emerge.
In Copeland Methodist Church the Yeager couple arrived late after their clock ran slow due to a power outage. Rev. O Kel ley closed the service at 11 minutes before noon, leaving the Yeagers astonished at the shortened rite. In Ottawa, Baptist women host party at Ottawa University share verse about a useful roommate. In Hutchinson a mail box ashtray incident damaged some mail but allowed delivery. Postmaster Hockaday notes no prior similar event and insufficient air caused the fire.
Secretary Benson reversed course and announced this year’s soil bank payments for drought damaged basic crop acreages. Payments will be smaller for damaged land than for land kept out of production. Benson spoke at Beaver Dam Wisconsin promising a dollar’s worth of surplus reduction for every dollar paid.
Ten contestants remain in the running for the 1956 Miss Kansas title as judging concludes tonight. Six finalists will perform their talent routines again while total points from talent beauty poise and personality determine the winner who will represent Kansas at Miss America in Atlantic City.
Mothers and leaders prepared Camp Wonderwood for Brownie Scouts and Girl Scout activities. Ninety Brownies registered as camp opens Monday with bus transportation from Central Park at 1 30 p m. Camp director Lorene Carson, cook Mrs Thomas Mitchell, and camp chairman Mrs Kelley Erickson named. Visitors night is Thursday at 730 p m. Girl Scouts must register by Monday for the established camp opening June 18.
Clyde Webb, 63, waived preliminary hearing on assault with intent to kill and resisting arrest in Justice of the Peace court and was bound over to District Court. Bond set at $5,000, which Webb could not furnish, and he remains jailed. Webb is accused of threatening his former wife at a farm home north of Erie where he was arrested May 24. he was wounded. The Rev. and Mrs. Crockatt were by Undersheriff John Phelps, who planned to Osage Sunday where Webb said to be armed and had will preach in the First Presley terian church.
Sam McCollum III, Brady attorney and key witness in the veterans land scandals trial, was critically injured when a bomb exploded as he started his station wagon outside his home. Giles, former State Land Commissioner Basil Giles, was convicted and jailed. Sheffield also faced charges in the same case.
Seven year old Sandra Lockwood of Kansas City Kansas died early today when her car went off a country road near Buell Montgomery County Missouri and plunged into a creek. Her father and four siblings were injured with Samuel Ray seven and Keith six listed as critical. Ronald five and Rocky eight months others lightly hurt.
Topeka state accident records show 1956 traffic fatalities in the last 24 hours totalled 255, compared with 231 in the same period of 1955.

Four 12-year-olds were identified as taking part in the theft of 47 torpedoes and four flares from a Santa Fe caboose near Seventh street. The youths were released to their parents after conferences with officers. Two were caught by a Santa Fe inspector. the others were identified after questioning.
A massive rockfall at the Schoellkopf hydroelectric station near Niagara Falls killed one man and wrecked two sections of the plant. About 40 workers escaped as 300,000 kilowatts of capacity were wiped out and losses likely exceed 50 million dollars.

Paris reports note Harry S Truman learning of the illness while Eisenhower emphasized he would leave the presidency if his health could not support duties.
Police investigated three minor traffic accidents yesterday and today with no injuries. Edgar Franklin Jr. 17 and James W. Olson 31 collided at 107 E Main, damaging Franklin’s right rear. Frederick Milo Harris 16 hit Robert Gene Byers 16 at 19 N Kansas, damaging Harris’s front and Byers’ rear bumper and taillight. James L. Rickerson 21 was struck by a backing pickup at Main and Grant, damaging Rickerson’s right rear and the Huffmaster pickup’s left front.
Chanute, St Paul, Tioga township, and Erie registered population gains in the past year while Neosho County totals fell from 20,627 in 1955 to 20,518. Chanute led with a 69 increase, St Paul up 58, Tioga 32, and Erie 29, with countywide township losses totaling 213.
Two men face grand larceny charges as authorities accuse them of stripping more than 40 vacant farm buildings in multiple counties of electrical wiring and scrap metal. William Henry Shepard and James E. Gawith, both of Cottonwood Falls, implicated each other and other stolen items such as motors batteries and mediates by a Lyon County undersheriff.
Mrs Margaret Thompson Biddle a copper heiress and former wife of Anthony J Drexel Biddle Jr died early today from a cerebral hemorrhage at age 54 Her death leaves a noted social and financial legacy in Paris and New York society circles.

Kansas Supreme Court heard a suit challenging the constitutionality of the Legislative Investigating Committee created during the 1956 budget session. Atty. Gen. In St Joseph Missouri a divorced couple, Pearl Queen 39 and ex husband Harry Queen 40, were shot to death this morning in the same residence. Police say Queen killed Pearl as she slept then killed himself with a 12 gauge shotgun. Queen had earlier tried to slash his throat and underwent a court sanity ruling.
In Topeka six teenage boys face first degree arson charges for allegedly setting fire to an unoccupied farmhouse. County Attorney Roy Bulkley says four others under 16 and a girl are being handled by juvenile authorities.
President Eisenhower suffered abdominal pain and was hospitalized at Walter Reed after an ileitis diagnosis. Officials described the move as precautionary with a cardiogram planned. First lady Mamie Eisenhower and Maj. John Eisenhower accompanied by aides followed the ambulance.
