Paris Jetliner Crash Kills 130 With 2 Survivors

Paris authorities report an Air France Boeing 707 crashed on takeoff from Orly Field, killing 130, with two passengers surviving. Mayor Ivan Allen of Atlanta led officials to Paris to identify victims and assist families, as investigators probe engine trouble and brake use before impact.

Amateur Oscar II satellite tracks spark world link

Richard Rogers a local radio amateur at 1505 West 4th observed Oscar II satellite on its 30th orbit over Chicago and Montana while California based operator group plans further missions. The 10 by 12 by 8 inch craft piggybacked on an Air Force satellite launched at Vandenberg at 6 32 p m CST.

Baker Addition Is Dedicated at Baker University Library

In Baldwin Kansas the Baker University library opened a new 100000 wing and a meditation chapel. The Quayle collection of rare Bibles dating to Abraham era was moved into the facility. Bishop William Alfred Quayle assembled the collection and died in 1925. The wing was donated by Kenneth and Helen Spencer. the chapel by Everett and Velma Filley.

FBI Most Wanted Fugitive Captured by Iola Officers

Halland Holland 30 of Baltimore, listed alias Robert C. Mitchell, was arrested east of Iola after display of a social security number at the Iola station. He had been paroled from a 10 year robbery sentence and was described as a robber and sex offender. He faces vagrancy booking with transfer to Baltimore authorities.

Nude divorcee Daphne Rhodes found murdered in Topeka apartment

The nude body of Daphne Rhodes a New York divorcee with ties to Ellsworth Bunker was found in her Topeka apartment. Police said bruises on her throat and strangulation autopsy point to foul play and questioned about a dozen people. She had been in Topeka since 1960 as a Menninger Clinic patient.
