Skeleton theft at grave sparks youth confessions

Four boys aged 16 and 17 admitted taking a Civil War era skeleton from a grave for science class study and returned it within a day. A fifth boy was seen with a skull. No charges filed.

Navy Debacle Severs Evans In Southeast Asia Collision

Australian carrier Melbourne rammed the USS Frank E. Evans during Sea Spirit maneuvers 240 miles southeast of Saigon. The Evans split in two. one American sailor died, 73 are missing, 200 survived. Survivors were taken to Melbourne and then to USS Kearsarge. A court of inquiry was ordered by Adm. Hyland.

Stabs Kill Coeds Autopsies Show

An autopsy disclosed two coeds found near the Garden State Parkway died of stab wounds in a murder. Elizabeth Perry of Excelsior Minnesota and Susan Davis of Camp Hill Pennsylvania, both 19, were vacationing in Ocean City before vanishing. Perry died of chest and neck wounds. Davis died of a neck wound and abdominal injuries.

District 413 to raise 1.35 mills for 1969 70 budget

The school board approved a 1.35 mill levy increase for the 1969 70 District 413 budget aided by 144 618 in new state funds. Without the aid the increase would be 7.86 mills. The plan raises per pupil cost to 519 31 with 90 percent of the budget for teachers salaries.

Tenacious girl overcomes burns to pursue therapy career

Sharon Stewart survived third degree burns covering most of her body after a stove accident in 1955. Despite eight operations and immense pain, the Parsons girl advanced academically, earned a $500 KU scholarship, and planned to study occupational therapy at the University of Kansas while working in hospital departments and receiving support from state vocational rehabilitation.
