William Ditchman used a blow torch to prep a house for painting and started a fire in London. Houseowner Harry Fersht claims $5,146 in damages in court. The judge found Ditchman responsible but stated that damages must be assessed.

Senator E L Bartlett says naming delinquent diners inspired payment of about 17000 dollars in Senate food bills. Philip Roof confirms several bills were paid with no current delinquencies and notes some months saw up to 5000 dollars owed by a single senator. The Senate eateries face a projected 363000 dollar deficit this year.
Two persons were treated at Neosho Memorial Hospital for minor injuries after a car collision at Main and Grant around 12:30 a.m. The drivers were Barbara Wells of Iola and Steven P. McDonald of Iola. Police did not file an accident report as the cars were moved before officers arrived.

In Quang Tin Province near Da Nang, a veteran Communist regiment of about 3,000 faced a steady assault by over 2,000 Marines aided by air and artillery. The Reds reportedly suffered 372 killed in 24 hours as Marines push along a three mile ridgeline above Paddy fields. An additional 2,000 Marines landed northeast of Hue to sever infiltration routes, while air battles over North Vietnam saw two American jets downed.
Moscow says two American jets bombed a Soviet ship off North Vietnam, killing one crewman and wounding six. Foreign Minister Gromyko lodged a protest with the U.S. ambassador, demanding punishment and assurances against further strikes. The embassy forwarded the note to Washington.

Clarence W. Moody 74 former editor and publisher of The Tribune and Burlington Hawk Eye died in a Burlington hospital after a six week illness. He edited The Tribune from 1933 to 1941 and then led the Hawk Eye until 1941. Moody received multiple awards and served on educational and civic boards, including Parsons College, and was named Burlington's Citizen No. 1 in 1954. He was born near Skidmore Missouri in 1892 and began in journalism as a teen at The Ottawa Herald. Continued on Page 3.
Five people died in a head on collision west of Parsons early today. The Erie victims were Mike Lohse and Stanley Clark both 22 and 23. Parsons residents Ramon Castoreno 28 Horace Martinez 32 and James Hernandez 19 also died. Jesse Martinez 30 of Parsons was seriously injured. The injured Martinez brother was hospitalized in Parsons. A westbound Mustang driven by Mary Blues 19 of Cherryvale brushed the wreckage and a separate eastbound Ford driven by Don Brooks 19 of Parsons caused further injuries. Michael Lohse born March 11 1945 in Minneapolis had served in Vietnam. Stanley Clark born March 2 1944 in Erie attended Erie High School and Tulsa Technical College. Both were employed by Leavenworth Steel Co. of Coffeyville. Funeral services will be held at the Federated church with burial at East Hill Cemetery.

Eleven Africans drowned when a small transport boat overturned near Lourenco Marques Mozambique on Friday, authorities reported.
Mrs. Storum Waring, 91, to receive Baker University's outstanding alumnae citation despite reporting only six months of formal schooling. She spoke of cooking for fraternities since 1914 to fund her three sons' education, praising classmates and Baker's community as she reflected on changes over 53 years of involvement. Her sons Lloyd, Carl and Oliver were to attend the ceremony.
