Four Iowa Prisoners Escape From Fort Madison Cellblock
Four long term inmates at Fort Madison Iowa State Penitentiary escaped by sawing two bars from an outside wall window after holding guards at knifepoint. The four—Lloyd Woodson Albert Boerger Elon Girdler and Robert Jones—slid to ground then fled the area. Warden John Bennett identified the escapees and noted guards were unharmed as authorities launched searches across Iowa Illinois and Missouri.

Injured Girl Hailed After Park Stumble
Seven year old Judy Rausch daughter of Mr and Mrs Ed Rausch of 412 West suffered a deep cut on the instep of her right foot while playing at Highland Park yesterday. Ten stitches were needed and she was treated at Neosho Memorial Hospital. Parents say she tripped into a section of fence near the park tennis court.

Practical Politics Course Offered to Chamber Members
Inquiry into interest by Chamber of Commerce members in attending a non partisan chamber course on practical politics will be made by letter and personal calls in the next few days. The course would require 18 class hours and use materials from the U S chamber to help business men understand political action affecting the business climate. Storms swept western and north central Kansas bringing heavy rainfall in Damar and Jetmore with hail. City Manager R J Hayes announced Lige Matlock as police chief with Matlock promoting L R Spencer to assistant chief. Matlock, acting chief since May 14, 1951, has served as sergeant since 1948. Spencer, from Eldon Missouri, led a shift since 1934 and joined as patrolman in 1951. Tom Ogden named shift sergeant. Ogden, 33, hails from Chanute and has been with the department since 1950. Other shift sergeants are John Leroy and Chet Hale.

May Police Department Summary Shows Busy Month
The police court bond and fine receipts totaled 1297 dollars with 242 dollars from 25 cent fines and 1 dollar parking meter penalties. There were 908 parking meter tickets and 263 calls for service. Kansas Youth Dies in Truck Fire After Bridge Crash
Albert John Beyer 17, a Sabetha graduate who had joined a harvest crew, was burned to death in the cab of a truck seven miles north of Caldwell Kansas when the truck struck the east railing of a bridge over the Chicaskia River. He was part of a convoy heading for Oklahoma and was driving a truck carrying a combine. He became trapped inside the cab after impact.

Lineman Wilbur Welch, 398, of Missouri Public Service Co. was electrocuted yesterday when a live wire fell on him in Nevada Missouri. A fellow worker described the fatal mishap as an electrical contact during maintenance work.
