Neodesha Kansas prepares for a Sunday dedication of a 67 foot derrick marking the Norman No 1 first commercially successful Kansas oil well drilled in 1892. The site is a city park funded by a gift from Mrs. W A Rankin with notable participants from American Oil Co and Forest Oil Co including Thomas M Galey and John W Galey in attendance.

Gun Accident Fatal to Youth in Kansas Barn
Robert E Dick, 15, son of Harold and Mrs. Dick of Mount Hope, Kas., was killed in a firearms accident while sparrow hunting in the family barn. Robert Jones, 17, also of Mount Hope, bumped a .22 rifle against a wall causing the discharge that struck Dick in the chest.

Locally heavy thunderstorms lashed eastern Kansas with Topeka reporting 1.80 inches of rain, most in a two hour window around 6 am. Holton 1.30, Centralia 1.10, Iola 0.62, Leroy 0.59 inches were recorded while mid morning showed showers retreating northeast. Highs reached 86 in Topeka and 99 at Cedar Bluffs Dam with overnight lows from 66 Goodland to 74 Pittsburg.

Cash stolen from St Paul service station and cafe
Thieves took a cash register with 85 to 90 dollars in cash and about 500 dollars in credit tickets from the Goodfeld service station and restaurant in St Paul. The 24 hour operation remained open as staff were elsewhere. The 50 pound register disappeared between 3 and 5 30 a.m. and was found missing when changes were sought.

Two Girls Hurt In One Car Crash Near Chanute
Two 16 year old girls were injured in a one car crash 2.4 miles south of Chanute on US 169 around 1 AM. Frankie Staggs the driver suffered broken legs and a knee cut, Sharon Bonny had minor cuts. They were taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital. Staggs was treated and released.
