Defense seeks dismissal in Joan Little murder case

In Raleigh, defense lawyers ask to throw out the murder charge against 21 year old Joan Little after two lie detector tests allegedly support her claim of self defense against a rape attempt by jailer Clarence Alligood. The trial added two jurors, bringing total to eight, including Wake Forest storekeeper Marcia C. Pearce who voiced fear yet indicated she could vote by the evidence. Old Soldiers and Sailors bean feed attracts crowds

From far and wide residents gathered on the Neosho County courthouse lawn for the annual Old Soldiers and Sailors Reunion bean feed. About 1200 pounds of navy beans plus 125 pounds of bacon fed an eager crowd despite heat and showers. Beans sold for about 14 cents a pound, totaling around 170 dollars, down from 43 cents and over 500 dollars last year.
