A chamber of commerce meeting at 7:30 p.m. Friday aims to form a class for exceptional children with six pupils needed to start. Mrs. Kenneth Lindsey promotes the project and invites interested parents to discuss instruction for retarded children.
Six people were killed when a twin engine Lockheed Electra crashed on takeoff at King Salmon Airport Bristol Bay Alaska. Victims include W Redfield Vose owner of the plane and prominent New York businessman Mrs H B Friele Bellevue Washington Polly Evans Augusta Georgia Edward Coligny the pilot and Ralph Huthes the copilot. The CAA said the plane climbed to about 500 feet then nosed over and burned.
TOPEKA A 40 hour week for highway department personnel, effective Aug 1, has been approved by the Kansas Highway Commission. Hours are 8 to 5 Monday through Friday with compensating time off for emergencies on weekends and holidays. Skeleton crews work half days Saturday and employees generally work four hour shifts every third Saturday.
The south four miles of the Kansas Turnpike will be toll-free for vehicles traveling north from Oklahoma. The Kansas Highway Commission, Kansas Turnpike Authority, and Oklahoma Highway Commission signed a jointly adopted agreement. Oklahoma will build a connecting line to the south end of the turnpike, enabling free access to US 166 east of South Haven, Kansas.

The ashes of Mrs. Calvin Coolidge widow of the former President will be buried tomorrow beside her husband and their son who died at 16 during the Coolidges White House years. Mrs Coolidge died Monday at her Northampton Massachusetts home.

Wilbert Roland Billy McCormick 80 longtime Shrine and Elks leader died at a Pittsburg hospital after a year of illness. He joined the Shrine in 1904 helped found Mirza Temple in 1909 and served as exalted ruler of the Pittsburg lodge in 1938 and as lodge secretary for 16 years. Born in Parsons, funeral arrangements are in complete.
Melbourne teen Frank Duffy, 22, was fired after driving a tram on a 30 mile suburban ride. He had never driven a tram before, saying he wanted to be like his father who also drives trams. The incident occurred after a wet day left him with no taxi options.
