Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Engelman of Benedict announce the engagement of their daughter Carolyn Lorna to Ronald W. Rowe son of Mrs. Robert Rowe of Bartlesville Oklahoma The couple met during school at Northwestern State College Alva where Carolyn studies mathematics and Ronald expects a biology degree in summer. The wedding is planned for August 24 at Zion Lutheran Church Chanute.
The WSCS of the United Methodist Church hosted a pre nuptial shower in the fellowship hall for Susan Weller of Montezuma, fiancée of Robert Watson. Committee members included Clark Frankenberg Marvin Lewellen and Allan Stewart. Mrs Lewellen and Mrs Reed Streets won games and presented prizes to Miss Weller. Mrs Frankenberg read the couple’s history and “Always” was sung by Mrs Reed Streets. The honoree’s mother Mrs Bernard Weller and sister Mrs Harry Zielke assisted with gifts. About 30 attended.
Mr and Mrs Richard D Worley of R 4 will observe their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with a reception from 2 to 4 p m in the annex of the First Baptist Church Iva B Childers and Richard Worley were married July 11 1919 in the bride s home They have lived all their married years at Chanute Hosts are their four children Doyle D Worley Wichita Mrs Phyllis Small 115 N Forest Dale E Worley Fayetteville NC and Richard Worley Jr Bangkok Thailand Their daughter Barbara died at age four They have 16 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren No gifts requested
Theresa Leis and David Henkle Jr exchanged vows at 4 p.m. June 21 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Yates Center. Rev. John Curran officiated. The ceremony featured Marguerite daisies, organza gowns, and a Panis Angelicus. The couple plans to reside in Greenville Texas where he works for LTV Aeronautics.

Joyce A Haskins and Donald W Gibson united in marriage at 10 30 a m June 20 at First United Methodist Church. Dr Duff D Wagoner officiated with a reception June 22 at the couple’s home and Orchid Buffet hosted dinner. They reside at 70242 Steuben after a short wedding trip.
Four Square EHU met Wednesday morning at the Sorghum Valley Grange with Mrs. Roy Johnson as hostess and 11 members plus three guests present. Mrs. Maxwell led Carnival Colors with food. plans for county fair exhibits were made. the meeting closed with a fish fry and door prize won by Mrs. Helen Baker.
Mrs. Cumings of 711 S Allen was installed as third district vice president of the American Legion Auxiliary at a three day state meeting in Salina. Also attending from Chanute were Mrs. Margaret Rausch and Mrs. William Bowker.
