Michael S. Crawford 24 pleaded guilty in Magistrate's Court to seven spankings by a stranger. He was fined 500 dollars with 450 stayed. Police say the incidents occurred as punishment for minor offenses like littering or bicycle riding.
Louis B. Russell Jr., 44, an Indianapolis school teacher, remains active after becoming the world’s 34th heart transplant patient on August 24, 1968. He paneling basement walls, bikes with his children, and climbed his roof for a repair while resuming industrial arts teaching this spring and speaking at clubs and statewide meetings through next February.
In a chaotic wrap to the Missouri legislature, lawmakers passed 57 million in tax speedup bills while a 10 million measure failed. Gov Hearnes needs funding for a 1.8 billion budget. A key school aid bill would raise first year state aid by 35 million, with cigarette tax tied to finance it.

The decree came Monday night two hours before a 24 hour nationwide general strike geared to protest both Rockefeller's visit and Ongania's military regime policies.

Two men died during the disruptions and the royal train was halted three times by scares. one bomb exploded near the track in front of the royal procession. Two youths were arrested.

Dale Fairchild of 1110 W. 5th was appointed to a two year term on the District 413 board to fill the vacancy caused by Rev. Robert C. Greene’s resignation. Fairchild, 38, is connected with Koch Furniture Co. and previously led the Safari Museum board. He and his wife Anita have three children.
Neosho Junior College announced HUD approval for a 455000 loan to construct a two story co educational dormitory for 80 students. Rep Joe Skubitz disclosed the news from his Washington office. The facility will sit on the east end of the north parking lot in the northeast quarter of campus with two wings per floor.
Flooding of the Neosho and Marmaton rivers drenched east central Kansas with rapid rises in Lola Iola and Chanute. Heavy rain felled 3.15 inches at Lola and up to 6 inches north, evacuations reported while Elm Creek drives higher water risks.
Dr. Henry J. Dick Jr joins Dr. Henry K. Baker and Dr. Reuben J. Burkman at a Chanute clinic on West Seventh near Neosho Memorial Hospital. Dick, from Burlington, trained at KU Medical School and St Joseph's Hospital, served in the Army Medical Corps, and will live at the Tioga Hotel.

Sixteen Boy Scouts and four adult sponsors from Post 100 Otterbein United Methodist Church faced a rough weekend on Shoal Creek two miles east of Ritchey Missouri. Fifteen turnovers and two capsizes led to rescues as Mike Jackson and Ted Ludlum lost control near a brush pile while Bill Allen and Wayne Lea rode a rough current before their canoe snagged a tree. Ludlum, rear passenger, took two dunks and the group was helped ashore by a nearby cabins owner before continuing to Galena and Tipton Ford to recover seven canoes still afloat. Scoutmaster Pete Warner and Buford Allen also sponsored the trip.
