Dodge City Kansas officials voted to transfer law enforcement duties to a police chief while preserving the historic marshal title for an honorary role. The move ends the active marshal era, citing city commission authority and heritage motives.
President Nixon welcomed Prince Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Sophia on the White House south lawn in a full honor ceremony. The visiting prince, Franco's designated successor, makes his fourth U S trip and his first official Washington visit, staying through Sunday.
CBS Radio News reports a group of American troops in civilian clothes recovered several unmarked helicopters undamaged in Friday’s attack on Pnom Penh airport. The soldiers, armed and in combat boots, subdued the craft and towed them away with larger helicopters.
The Army has dispatched 80 Green Berets to Anson County North Carolina to assist local doctors and police, and even help with junior high gym classes. Copper wire worth over $2,000 was stolen from a city electric line south of Shaw Road on US 169. Line men traced the neutral 2400 feet of No. 4 copper wire about 25 feet high. Larry W. Riebel 20 of Humboldt died after a 43 foot fall at Monarch Cement Company construction site. Employed by Continental Slip Form Builders for silo work, he was a lifelong Humboldt resident born January 22 1951. Survived by parents four brothers and five sisters and two grandmothers. Dorothy Ford city administrative analyst says odorant will be sent through gas lines this afternoon to homes due to winter high gas use. The sulfrous odorant added to natural gas will help leaks be detected quickly, anticipated no later than tonight.
