Effie D Perry born November 6, 1879 in Neodesha married Russell H Perry in Shaw in 1897. She homesteaded on Crazy Head Creek Montana in 1914 and died October 18, 1970 in Montana at age 90. Survived by 162 descendants including 42 grandchildren 98 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. Survived by two sons five daughters and two sisters Mrs Frances Hole and Mrs Lydia Scott both at Westview Nursing Home. Sister in law Mrs Beth Waggoner of Chanute. Husband and two sons preceded her in death.
Neosho County women organized a labor of love through the American Red Cross to brighten troops in Vietnam. The chapter packed 105 gift bags and shipped them September 30, with Mrs. Fred C. Heinze as chairwoman. A Vietnam field director praised the gifts for bringing home thoughts to the soldiers and thanking donors for their care.
Dwight McCreight publisher of The Tribune ordered a car tag by mail and bought the 1971 plate at the Erie treasurer's office. While mounting the tag he noticed the digits matched his 1970 plate but the 1971 tag carried an M. He quips he has the same number with his monogram added.
Nine Stark businessmen formed the Crazy Nine partnership to open a daily coffee counter in a former restaurant building. They bought equipment and hired Wilma Goff as operator, opening 7 am to 8 pm. Partners Wayne Harding, Eugene Lee, Eddy Smith, Leon Richwine, Bob Defenbaugh, Louis Beggs, Verle Shook, Ed Brown and Bernard Smith invested from 100 to 200 dollars each, with profit seen in daily dealings over coffee.
Whyte Wood Products Inc expands floor space from 6000 to 16000 sq ft north of highway K39, west of Plum mer. The plant, making vanity cabinets and hollow core doors for campers, serves a five state area including Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska, and now California orders. Current output is 100 cabinets weekly and 200 doors daily. expansion adds painting facilities and may raise payroll as demand grows.
Iola police and county officials arrest George Harris 72 on voluntary manslaughter charges in the death of his son-in-law Jack Powers 31 of Erie. The case centers on a gunshot wound at Powers home in Allen County last Friday night.
LAWRENCE Kansas AP prosecutors dropped riotous conduct charges Friday against Darryl Bright and Ron Washington connected to a December 9 KU demonstration that caused 150 dollars in damage to the chancellor's office. County attorney Mike Elwill said he would discuss dropping charges against four others with EU officials.
A 12 unit dormitory for University of Missouri Rolla students burned Friday night causing an estimated $40,000 loss. Candido Damion of St. James suffered a foot cut while aiding in moving furniture. Many residents lost all belongings as the one story A frame building was among ten structures at the west edge of town. Some main campus students brought food and clothing to victims.
A federal judge ordered a jury to determine damages in a $600,000 suit by Carroll Bollard, who says a 1969 accident while riding in a 1966 car caused head injuries from a windshield and seat design or manufacturing negligence. Volkswagen denied key allegations and misanswered interrogatories in the damage case.

Vermont C. Royster former editor of the Wall Street Journal is named the 22nd recipient of the William Allen White Foundation national award for journalistic merit. He won a 1953 Pulitzer for editorial writing and will receive the prize during William Allen White Day at the University of Kansas on February 10.

Dennis Williams, 16, of 817 W Highlane, treated for lac erations at Neosho Memorial Hospital and released after a one car crash. Police say 16 year old Tish Whitworth drove a 1962 Buick southbound in the 900 block of South Evergreen at 12 25 a.m. Williams moved, Whitworth glanced away, lost control, and struck a tree. car listed as total loss.
