Humboldt couple in critical condition after Humboldt blast
Mr and Mrs Joe Whitford in their mid sixties suffer critical injuries from a Sunday explosion and fire that destroyed their Humboldt home. Fire Chief Briggs Massey says the blast likely came from gas buildup. the house burned within minutes as crews responded. Whitford, a retired Monarch Cement employee, was taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital Chanute before transfer to Hillcrest Burn Center Tulsa. The house stood two blocks east of US 169 in the southeast Humboldt area near new housing units.
